Carrying out Academic SI Socialization: Undiksha Presents SIAK-NG to Improve Academic Community Services

Located in the Video Conference room (Vicon) of the Undiksha UPT ICT building, on Tuesday (13/8) socialization of the Undiksha academic information system (SIAK-NG) took place. The activity took place from 13.00 WITA and was attended by the Head of the Faculty Academic Subdivision, the Head of the Postgraduate TU Subdivision, and the SIAK-NG development team at the Ganesha University of Education. The socialization agenda was opened directly by the Head of Academic Affairs Nyoman Mudana, S.Sos accompanied by the Head of the Information Systems Development Division of UPT ICT I Nyoman Laba Jayanta, S.Pd., M.Pd. In his presentation, there were several things behind the development of the new SIAK system, which cannot be handled by the current Academic Information System, namely:
1. There is a credit transfer system
2. Synchronize the MK code with PDDIKTI in line with curriculum changes
3. Changes to the MPK course scheme
4. Some academic processes have not been implemented directly in the system

Due to these several obstacles, the leadership decided to create a new one. So it’s easier to customize, besides that the new SIAK is also made according to existing technological developments.

“The SIAK-NG system that was designed has several developments to simplify the process. In the future, students will not only study in one class in one study program but will study from various study programs. “These changes are why we cannot use the old system or change it, it is the same as creating a new one,” said Prof. Jayanta in delivering the initial information.

He also added that through the development of SIAK-NG, it is hoped that in the future the service will be better, especially overcoming the problems currently being experienced by SIAK. With the hope that problems that occurred previously can be handled in the latest system.

With the new scheme for implementing MPK taking across study programs, in the future there will be adjustments to course offering procedures and KRSan. The use of the SIAK-NG system will begin to be used in the odd semester of the 2019/2020 academic year by Undiksha diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate students with a cutoff system implemented, so only new students (class of 2019 and above) will use it. So there will be two SIAK Undiksha systems running, accessed directly via the Undiksha SSO service.

The socialization took place until 15.30 WITA. With the implementation of the SIAK-NG system, in the future, the faculty will begin to input curriculum, course offerings, and schedules and determine academic supervisors starting 12 – 17 August 2019. Next, the KRS process will be carried out by new students according to a predetermined schedule.

SIAK-NG is still under development and is expected to be able to meet the needs of all users. Several new features were developed to maintain data consistency and SOPs according to standards. UPT ICT and Undiksha hope to be able to provide better, faster system services, better academic processes, and data reporting to the center. So suggestions for system development are very welcome.
